CARE FOR WEALTH?
Deuteronomy 8:11-18
Wealth is a regular consequence of certain laws and actions. If you study the life of Abraham from the last verses of Genesis 11 to Genesis 14, you will notice that he went from grass to grace over a period of time. By Genesis 24, his servant described him thus:
And the LORD hath blessed my master greatly; and he is become great: and he has given him flocks, silver, and gold, and men-servants and camels and asses. Genesis 24:35.
The first thing to note from the life of Abraham is that he did not regard himself as an achiever. No! He saw himself as a receiver. “The LORD hath blessed”. What you have, should be as given by LORD. Wealth is a product of the Covenant and should be treated such. Consider our text:
But thou shall remember the LORD thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth that he may establish his covenant which he swore unto thy fathers, as it is this day. Deuteronomy 8:18
So wealth is from God. He gives to who he wishes. His plan and purpose is to bless you. His blessing produces wealth. So the first Law is to acknowledge the God-factor. If you acknowledge that what you have and will ever have is from God, you will work on your relationship with God more. You must prioritize your walk with him; your obedience to him as well as your commitment to his principles.
Once you settle yourself with your Creator who the bible says has pleasure in the prosperity of his people, the rest is easy. He is the ultimate source of the vision that would birth your wealth. Great ideas emanate from God. This is what is referred to in the scripture as the “power to get wealth” He will give you that power. It may be a tiny inspiration. It may be big. It may be an opportunity he brings across your way that will catapult you to your highway of wealth.
Some of the laws that govern wealth include diligence, waiting, delayed gratification etc. We cannot over-emphasize Diligence. One highly successful man of God was asked the secret of his success in ministry. He responded thus: “Ministry is one percent inspiration and ninety-nine percent perspiration”. In other words, God inspires but you have to perspire. Another law is that of financial discipline. You must discipline yourself to spend less that you earn. If you do, you will have savings. This is the beginning of wealth creation. But if you spend more than you earn, you become a debtor and very soon, you will be bankrupt!
Having saved some money, you enter into the second rule; investing your surplus. It is ridiculous to accumulate savings and then waste it on some frivolous spending. Finally, learn to delay your gratification. Let the investments grow. Plough in the profits and watch your wealth grow. Invest, rather than spend your money, time and talent. It shall be well with you and your wealth.
MEDITATION: Wealth is like an animal that must be captured and trained to remain and produce more in your house.
