YOU REAP WHAT YOU SOW

While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.      Genesis 8:22

The above quoted is the simple law of sowing and reaping.  As long as the earth remains, there will always be sowing (seed time) and harvest (reaping).  It has been ordained by God as a principle that keeps the earth population alive and well. If there is no sowing, there will be no harvest at the appropriate time.  The result would be famine and loss of lives.

Imagine a farming community.  When the rains come in its season, they would go and sow or plant their crops –corn, yams, cassava, wheat and such like. They would nurture their crops – weed, water and protect from pests.  In a few weeks (or months depending on the crop), the seed had germinated, blossomed, grown and bring forth fruits.  And then, they would harvest.

And all would rejoice for their labour had been rewarded.  Still on our imaginary trip, take another community, they refuse to plant at the time of planting, definitely there would be nothing to harvest when the time comes.  The first community would have their rewards of harvest: food to eat, abundance to sell for money; they would have funds to do things that life requires of them.  The other community would lack and suffer.

Beloved, sowing is important and essential to life.  And it answers to its own laws.  Law Number one: No seed, no harvest.  No harvest, no future.  You must note this in life.  Seed constantly into your future.  What you sow today is what you reap tomorrow.  The second law is that harvest is usually more than the seed. Your seed does not return to you in the same quantity you sowed.

For instance, a corn of maize planted and nurtured would yield at least two or three cobs with a thousand maize seeds/fruits.  Some harvests thousands over many seasons.  You sow once and harvest continually. For instance, a cocoa farmer plants once and when it is time, he continues to harvest for an average life span of more than two decades.  There are some crops you sow once in life and you reap and reap. Generations after you may still reap from it.

What then is a seed?  The seed is what you do today that would affect tomorrow.  Going to school is a seed into your future.  It determines what happens to you tomorrow. What job or business to do; your companions, your economic power etc. is dependent on what you sow.  Prayer is a great seed for believers.  Each prayer is a water shed today against the thirst of tomorrow.

The labour and nurture you put at your business, marriage etc.  are seeds that determine the cause of the business tomorrow.   And of course, money is a seed. Finally, each seed begets it’s like.  What you sow is what you reap.  What you harvest is also dependent on the quantity you sow.  If you sow sparingly, you reap sparingly. From today, watch what you sow because it is what you will reap.  Your future depends on it.
