LOVEST THOU ME MORE THAN THESE? 2
Mathew 19: 16-30
We made reference to the story of this young man in yesterday’s devotional. He would have loved to follow Jesus, but his affection for the Lord was not as much as his love for the wealth he had. The bible records that “when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions” (vs 22). A lot of us are still in this position today. There are too many things or persons competing with God in our affections. But as already said, God will not only be number one, He will be the ONLY ONE. Until you come to this realization, you are not yet ready to follow Him fully.
What then should you do? The word says: Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. Mathew 22: 36-37.This is the standard. You should love Him with the whole of your heart, mind and soul. How do you do this? But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you, Mathew 6:33. Make the Lord and His kingdom your utmost in all things.
As we prepare for the New Year, it will do you good to eliminate the competitors from your heart be it man or things. Show your love to God in your obedience; in your service; in your giving, with your time, talents and challenges. Cultivate God by spending time in His presence in prayers, worship and study of the word. Behold everything else will fade away, but it is your relationship with God that determines your placement in eternity.
