ABRAHAM: FOLLOW PEACE WITH ALL MEN.
GENESIS 13: 1-9
The bible reading for today tells the story of how Abraham managed the strife between his herdsmen and those of his nephew Lot. God had blessed the two of them so much that they needed to give each other space to allow for proper feeding of their flocks. Abraham gave up his right to choose first (as the elder of the two) for the sake of peace. God gave him the wisdom to manage the situation so well that there was no rancour or strife. He said to Lot, “Please let there be no strife between you and me…for we are brethren”
The bible instructs us to live in peace with all men not giving room for resentment leading to bitterness or hatred (Heb12:14-15). As a believer, you sometimes have to make concessions to people around you for the sake of peace. If you are in a relationship where you are the senior or stronger party, learn to be sensitive to the needs of the weaker other party. You have your own needs of course but a more holistic and mature approach to resolving issues will recognize the needs of the other party as well.
Be considerate. Be Christlike. Do not take advantage of other peoples vulnerabilities to cheat them. Follow peace. Avoid strife.
MEMORY VERSE: Romans 12:18- “if it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone”
