ABRAHAM: THE FRIEND OF GOD

JAMES 2:23, ISAIAH 41: 8

Friendship is a reciprocal relationship between two people who share a bond of mutual affection. Friends are those who:

– Know, understand and like each other.

– Have shared interests and want to spend time together.

– Help and protect each other.

Abraham’s relationship with God was phenomenal. He was more than an acquaintance, he was a friend of God. He trusted and understood God so well that he was sure God would not do anything to harm him. That was why he readily obeyed God when he was instructed to sacrifice his son Isaac (Heb 11: 17-19). Many centuries after his demise, God still referred to him as “Abraham my friend” (Isaiah 41:8)

Many people attend church today but are at best God’s acquaintance.

. How vibrant is your prayer time?

. How consistent is your study of God’s word?

. How devoted are you to God’s service?

. Do you run from sin (because you know God hates it) or do you think it does not matter?

You can become God’s friend if you will make genuine efforts to:

– Know and understand God.

– Become interested in what God is interested in.

– Spend quality time in God’s presence.

– Protect and defend anything that has the signature of God

MEDITATION: James 2:23: “…Abraham believed God and it was accounted to him for righteousness. And he was called the friend of God.”
