BE DELIVERED FROM SELFISHNESS

Luke 12:13-32

People who live selfishly cannot do God’s will. God expects us to be selfless and unselfish. He expects us to pour out our lives to bless others daily. Our lives are as valuable as the number of people we touch. As Christians, our ultimate goal is to ensure that as many as possible are saved from eternal destruction. Our lives will not be measured by how much houses, cars or certificates that we have, but the number of souls that were saved through us, Luke 12:14.

God expects that we do not live in constant anxieties for food, clothing and money. This is how many people of the world live. The world has set a standard of success that keeps shifting. If you keep chasing the world’s standard of success, you will never attain fulfillment in your bid to meet the world’s standards. All that people amass on earth are perishable, they do not last. They are not true treasures. True treasures are the ones laid in heaven that do not perish. Selfless Christians are the ones who choose heavenly treasures over earthly riches.

Does that suggest that a Christian should be poor? No! In Luke 27:13, God said we should look at the lilies which do not do any work, yet they are so blessed.  If God can keep the grass in the field and the animals in the bushes, he can keep you. We are expected to put God first, and then God in turn will bless us with all that pertains to life and godliness. Seek the kingdom of God and all these things shall be added to you, Luke 12:31. This means that when your heart is set towards the prosperity of God’s kingdom, your prosperity is secured and assured in God.

Remember that a truly blessed person is the one that chooses to gather his or her treasures in heaven where time and natural elements cannot destroy. Make sure that you are one of the persons that God can count on to do His will even in the midst of dire economic difficulties. Today, choose to be a blessing to someone around you.

PRAYER: LORD, make me my Brother’s keeper and deliver me from a selfish spirit.
