DO YOU HAVE SAVINGS?

Genesis 41:34-36

It is certain that you are familiar with the text today.  You will recall Pharaoh’s dream and Joseph’s interpretation of it. Now Joseph advised that the seven plenteous years should not be wasted. Rather, twenty percent should be preserved for the years to come.  Joseph preserved savings for future stability.

In life, you must learn to work the law of savings.  No matter your income, you should put something by for tomorrow. Many of us are on salary – be it monthly or weekly.  Some work for daily pay while some are in business with profits rolling in from time to time.  The law of savings dictates that something should be set aside for the future. What comes in should not be consumed. Even if your income is small, you can still put some savings aside.

Let’s take a look at this question.  If your present inflow should stop or be delayed, can you survive the next three months without resorting to borrowing?  Remember the Covid-19 year?  Many resorted to begging because they had nothing put by for the raining day. Let us learn from the ant.  Go to the ant, thou sluggard; Consider her ways, and be wise: Which having no guide, Overseer, or ruler, Provideth her meat in the summer, And gathereth her food in the harvest; Proverbs 6: 6-8. During the dry season, the ant gathers food and stocks its house for the raining day. If an ant could do this, why not you?

Beloved, a time is coming when you won’t be able to run around as you can today; a time is coming for you, young couple when your children will have to be fed, sent to school etc.  And you will have something to fall back on. Be prepared.  Christians should not live their lives without planning for tomorrow. Joseph’s formulae here is very instructive. Imagine putting 20% of your income into savings every month/year. After a while you would have accumulated enough for investment not to mention eventualities. If you do this, you are on your way to financial abundance.

MEDITATION: if you are not saving, you are not safe.
