DON’T BE A FOOL 3

 PSALM 53: 1-6

It has been said earlier that the meaning the term “fool” in the scriptures depends on the context.  Today’s text says only a fool would say “there’s no God”.  The phrase “there is no God” in itself can be interpreted beyond its literal meaning of denying the existence of God. It can refer to the regression of, and disregard to God’s commands, ignoring His warnings and refusal to acknowledge His authority over a matter.  Such people may possess intelligence or worldly success  but lack spiritual understanding.

It is foolishness if a person would disregard the instruction of the Almighty over a matter.  It is like saying God does not matter.  When you set aside God’s instructions or directives, you are indirectly saying God does not exist.  Or that you know better than God.  This was Eve’s mistake.  When the serpent gave her an alternative opinion, she consented.  That consent and the corresponding action was tantamount to rejection of God and his counsel.  It is like telling God, he does not matter?  Or that he is not as wise as the one whose opinion you prefer.  When you do that, you are like the fool saying in his heart that there is no God.

The scriptures states that the fear (reverence and deference to) of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.  It is nothing but absolute folly not to fear God, the one who owns the breath in your nostrils; who can say in a moment, “enough” and you cease to exist! When you plan God out of your life, it is foolishness.  The rich fool was so called because in all his strategizing and programing, there was not a space for the Almighty God.  He   trusted in his riches and wisdom.  But God said, “: Thou fool! And he ceased to exist from that second!

Yes, they knew God, but they wouldn’t worship him as God or even give him                               thanks. And they began to think up foolish ideas of what God was like. As a                                result,  their minds became dark and confused. Claiming to be wise, they                                     instead became utter fools. Romans 1:21-22

Beloved, don’t be a fool.   Acknowledge God; obey him; celebrate him; depend on him; let his instructions and principles be your watchword.  Let him be the number one and none else in your life.
That is how to live.  Don’t be a fool.
