FAITH OVER FEAR
Exodus 14: 9 – 11
Today, God brings to each of us a choice – we can live by fear or by faith. If we choose fear we will live our entire lives never fully experiencing the great satisfaction of taking a risk for God. If we choose to walk in faith, we will experience a new found freedom that will help us to live our lives to its fullest. Contrary to what the Lord wants, many of us today are living in fear. Fear of tomorrow, fear of death, fear of the enemy etc.
The book of Exodus tells us about the Israelites leaving the captivity of Egypt for the freedom God had planned for them. They have just seen God’s hand at work in their deliverance in a mighty way. They witnessed the ten plagues; experienced the miracle of the first Passover, which culminated into their release by Pharaoh after 400 years of bondage. Having experienced all these, you would expect them to have confidence in the Lord’s ability to save and deliver them no matter what. Instead, they were crippled by fear.
The accounts in the scripture stand as examples for us. We should not allow fear to becloud our faith in God’s ability. He is more than able to do much more than we can imagine. Look at things, always, from God’s angle. When you are fearful, you can only see things from your own limited perspective. This fearful disposition debars you from thinking about what God can and will do. Stop focusing on yourself; you should learn how and begin to look at all things and situations from God’s perspective.
MEDITATION: “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind” (2 Timothy 1: 7).
