GOD’S PROMISES TO DIRECT US
Proverbs 3:5, Isaiah 30:21
There is no arguing the fact that we undergo challenging situations on a regular basis, and in most cases, are usually found on the edge of decision making. In such cases, several thoughts of compromise and contemplation run through our minds as we rummage through the different alternatives and options presented to us. Thankfully, the good news is that rather than trouble our hearts, we are to look into God’s words and use them in our decision-making process. God’s promise to direct and lead us, is indeed not a cliché.
The popular hymn ‘Lead Us, Heavenly Father Lead Us’, sung by James Edmeston (1821), gives us a quick view into our daily encounters, troubles and worries. But we are to constantly seek God’s direction in all spheres of our lives knowing that we have a myopic view of the future. Hence, in whatever environment or situation we find ourselves, we must habitually request His direction and leading. The second passage emphatically states that ‘we shall hear a voice behind us, showing us the path to follow’. This is likewise a proof of God’s interest in our not being misled.
When we are divinely directed, we allow ourselves to be led to the place of safety and destiny. We need divine direction to avoid guess work, trial and error. One of the signs that God is leading us is if HE speaks to us directly from His Word or other people. If God speaks consistently to you about a particular thing, it is likely that He is trying to guide you in that direction. There are various ways by which the Lord leads His children. These include, but not limited to His Word. (Psa. 43:3; 119:105), divine instructions, (Psa. 32:8-9), Prophetic guidance. (Hebrews 1:1) and the inner small, yet audible voice (Psa. 78:14; Romans 8:14). Others are Wise Counsel, Dreams & Visions, Christian Literature and Godly Witnesses.
Prayer: Dear Lord, I ask for your spirit of guidance every day of my life to lead and see me through my daily and regular pursuits.
