HOW TO HEAR FROM GOD
John 10:1-5, 14, 27
God speaks in diverse ways, and it is the responsibility of man to discover how best God communicates with him simply because God is not a talkative. Intimacy with God births easy communication with Him. Some people have depended on dreams, visiting false prophets as one of the commonest ways of hearing from God. A sure way of hearing God is to be identified with God as His sheep, John 10:27 and to establish a routine of daily interaction with Him through study of His Word and prayer. The list is endless in itemising the various media through which God reaches out to His own. We provide a list of some questions that will help in clarifying hearing God’s voice:
a. How does God speak?
- Angelic Visitations, Dan 10:2-12, Gal 1:8, Luke 1:8-13
- Audible voice, 1 Sam 3:3-10, Acts 9:4-6
- Inner Witness, Matt 22:18, Luke 5:22
- Reading and meditating on God’s words, Josh 1:8
- Vision, Dan 10:2-3, 7-15
b. How can we discern God’s voice?
- Absolute trust in God, Is 26:3
- Discover how God speaks to you and deepen your walk with Him.
- Double hearing, Ps 62:11
- Witnesses, a Word sent through various media such as your study of God’s Word, preaching you listen to, what you hear people say in casual discussion etc, Matt 18:16.
c. Is there a fixed way God speaks to us?
There is no fixed way neither is there any hard and fast rule as to how God communicates His mind to us. God does not expect us to walk in the dark or be totally lost as far as His will is concerned; hence, the need for us to expose ourselves to His Word, His voice, and maintain a relationship with Him that can cause us hear His voice.
