IF ONLY YOU WILL OBEY
Jonah 31: 1-10
At last Jonah heeded the call. He want to Nineveh, declared the message of the LORD and the People believed God and repented of their evil ways. When God saw their penitence, “he had compassion and did not bring upon them the destruction he had threatened”. Just imagine the repentance of a whole city. They all went into fasting and prayers when they heard Jonah preach. Even animals were not left out! Everybody fasted and clothed themselves in sack cloths.
When you obey God, you cannot tell what the effect will be. Jonah obeyed God and the destruction of a city was averted. Your obedience carries with it the seed of blessing not only for you and for others. Take evangelism for instance. We feel led to preach to somebody, but more often than not, we hesitate and run away. Do you know whether that was a soul already prepared by the Holy Spirit to receive the message of salvation? Do you know what that soul can become today. Imagine any of our prominent men of God today. Someone obeyed God and preached the word to them and today, they are household blessings. When we get to heaven there will be crowns for such simple messengers whose converts become great men.
What is God telling you to do? Is it personal or ministerial? Is it financial or academic? Marital issues that require your action? Stop procrastinating. Take a step of obedience today and see what God will do. Mary told those servants at the wedding feast “do whatever he tells you” (John 2:5). They obeyed and things turned around for good. Even when circumstances around you dictate otherwise, still go ahead and obey. Take a cue from Simon Peter. He was asked to launch out to the deep for a catch:
And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing; nevertheless as thy word I will let down the net. And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake Luke 5:5-6
If only you will obey the Word of God and follow his instructions, miracles upon miracles lie ahead for you today, listen to the voice of the Lord and do what he tells you per time. If you do this, you are on your way to a beautiful and glorious life of divine encounters and exploits.
PRAYER: Dear Lord help me to trust and obey you to the fullest.
