IMMUTABLE LAW OF FAITH: THE PECULIAR FAITH OF ABRAHAM

Genesis 15:1-6

And he believed in the Lord and God counted it to him for righteousness. Genesis 15:6

As aforementioned in our previous study, faith is an important element to consider if a man is to break forth, have dominion and live a meaningful life on planet earth. Indeed the foundation of a man’s breakthrough lies in his faith. In this write-up we will take a look at Abraham whose life would have amounted to nothing if not that he believed in God.

Abraham’s era was characterized by idolatry. It was an era of seeing is believing.  It was an era when people made and worshipped gods, physical objects they could see as gods. And probably because of the widespread idolatry, it was also probably an era whereby sorcery, witchcraft with all its attendant evils of murder, hatred distrust etc would be prevalent. Abraham however did the impossible in his time by believing in the invisible God even at the risk of being counted as the odd man out.

Abraham’s life and his brand of faith stand in stark comparison to the faith and belief of modern times. In this modern day and time, there is polytheism (belief in many gods), atheism (belief that there is no God), and agnosticism (belief that God is not knowable). Coupled with this is the endorsement among the so-called believers of God, of gays, lesbianism – same sex relationships that were frowned at by God during Abraham’s time.

Marriage practices that are sacrosanct have now been thrown overboard. Premarital sex/co-habitation are now substituted for Godly principles of abstinence and watchfulness before marriage. There is double mindedness towards God and the prayer altar of many believers is waxing cold. In a nutshell the following are the underlying principles which stood Abraham out and made him an apple in the eyes of God.

1.         Unquestioning obedience.

2.         He was ready to serve God whether or not it was convenient

3.         Patience: Abraham was able to wait for his promise, although it was long in coming.

4.         Abraham was ready to serve God. This made it easy for him to obey his instructions

5.         He was ready to leave his comfort zone

PRAYER: Pray these underlying principles of Abraham’s faith into your life.
