1 John. 3:11-24, 4:7-21

Genuine love is fast fading out among men. Selfishness is fast encroaching into the fabric of society. To profess to others that, we love them is easy. To live it as a lifestyle is where the work is. The passage above shows us the pattern of the life God wants for us as His children to live. God is only asking us to become who He is. i.e. Like Father…like son/ daughter.

True demonstration of selfless love and unity is a reflection of the depth of God we know. We cannot claim we love God when we don’t manifest this in practical terms to others God sent our way. Most marriages and relationship that fail over time can be traced to selfishness and manifestation of pride. You don’t love your spouse because it is the easiest of things to do. You do so because it’s a command of the kind of life Christ expect us to live. Don’t forget that the devil will attack wherever love and unity abide. The forces of nature further encourage human beings to be selfish. However, the word of God which is the balance to live states love must be upheld.

The devil saw how God loved the world that He gave His only begotten son that, whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. [John 3:16] so the rage and attack to nail Him to the cross came full-force. If he had known that by nailing Jesus to the cross that victory would be shared to the entirely world, he wouldn’t have done it. So, loving others according to the directive of the Holy Spirit has deeper and greater outcome for you in the nearest future.

Be that careful Christian that will not permit the devil/flesh to dictate when to love or stop loving others in the Christian fold. Don’t be that person who will pull others down with negative words. Let your words be seasoned with salt, edifying the body of Christ.

Loving those who love us can be comfortable but loving those who despitefully use us is a serious work that only the empowerment of the Spirit of God in us can make happen. It might be rare to find around us but aim at this.

PRAYER: Oh Lord, I receive the grace to love others as commanded by you and John in the scriptures.
