MIND YOUR INTAKE 2

PROVERBS 23; 19-21; 29-35

Yesterday, we considered the intake of food.  Today we are looking at what we drink.  There are drinks that are good.  There are some that are harmful to our body system.  The commonest and profitable drink is water.  Researchers have told us that more than 70% of the body is water.  Taking water at certain quantity and at particular times can upscale your health and improve immunity. But please be mindful of the quality of your water. Don’t just drink anyhow or anywhere.  As good as water is, there are also water-borne diseases.  Hence we must be ensure that our water is of the right quality.

Another type of drink is what we call minerals.  They are carbonated sweet drinks that are common all over the world.  There have been series of campaign against these sugar-coated drinks and the harm they cause to our health.  It will do you a whole lot of good if you can minimize or completely avoid them.  You have been warned.

Finally, let us consider alcoholic drinks.  This includes wine, beer, hot drinks, liquor and so-called energy drinks.  From our text, we note that alcoholic drink “bites like a serpent and stingeth like an adder” (Proverbs 23:32).  It is sad to note that many Christians still engage in drinking these.  They hide behind the fact that there is no particular scripture that outrightlly forbids us from alcoholics.  It is true.  But the Bible warns us of what it can do to your body and your senses.  Look at the scripture in our text.
Wine can be detrimental to your psyche.  Just read this from the MSSG Version.

Oh listen, dear child. . . Who are the people who are always crying the blues? Who do you know who reeks of self-pity? Who keeps getting beaten up for no reason at all? Whose eyes are bleary and bloodshot? It’s those who spend the night with a bottle, for whom drinking is serious business. Don’t judge wine by its label, or its bouquet, or its full-bodied flavor. Judge it rather by the hangover it leaves  you with— the splitting headache, the queasy stomach. Do you really prefer seeing double, with your speech all slurred, Reeling and seasick, drunk as a sailor? “They hit me,” you’ll say, “but it didn’t hurt; they beat on me, but I didn’t feel a thing. When I’m sober enough to manage it, bring me another rink!

Can you see that? Be warned.  Be guided.  Mind your intake.  Alcohol affects your brain.  It gives you headache.  It gives you hang-over.  It depletes your economy.  It makes society look down on you.  Nobody wants to commit anything good into the hands of an alcoholic.
