NEW YEAR, NEW YOU II

1 Peter 2: 1-12

In our last study, we established the fact that you are a new creature.  You were urged to live in that consciousness of a new creature as you can’t become anything unless you think it.  You have to live in the consciousness of the new you to be able to maintain the status.  Now one of the things to do next is you must start to grow. As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may Grow thereby 1 Peter 2:2

One of the characteristics of living things is that they grow.  Now that you are born again, you are a new and living spirit and you must grow.  Growing the new you will ensure that you do not go back to the old you and your old ways.  It ensures constant and consistent victory over who you used to be.  It must be clearly understood that the devil will not let go.  There will be the allurement of temptations, old associates desire etc that the enemy will use to try to draw you back.  But a steady growth will put you above these and make you stronger than the oppositions of the old man.

How then do you grow?  In the same way as the weapon for fighting the fight for faith, the word is the nutrition you need to grow your new man.  Peter urged born –again Christians to “desire the sincere milk of the word”.  His analogy addresses a similarity between physical growth and spiritual growth.  No one is born as a full grown human being; we are born as babes in the natural, and then we grew up.  Likewise, no one is born as a full-grown Christian.  Christians are born as spiritual babes, and they grow up.  Incidentally, no baby has a past.  He is all new.  Peter is emphasizing that you are a new creature indeed! You are brand new.  And you must grow.  What milk is to a baby is what the word is to you: You must crave it; eat it and be addicted to its practice if you”must grow.  Let the word be a part of you.  Read it daily.  Meditate on it.  This is how to grow.

PRAYER: Dear Father, teach me how to grow.
