OPPRESSION IS NOT YOUR PORTION II

Mathew 11:27-30

Oppression is a matter of living under a yoke that is too heavy to be borne.  In the last study, we identified the devil as the source of oppression.  He must be resisted if you will ever be free from oppression.  One of the ways of resisting the devil successfully is to yield to Christ.  Jesus understood the mystery of oppression.  He likens it to a heavy yoke. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart; and ye shall find rest unto your souls.  For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.  Mathew 11: 29-30

If the yoke is too heavy for you, it is from the devil! But you can choose to continue to bear it and suffer in silence.  On the alternative, you can come unto Jesus, drop the yoke at His feet and take his easy and light burden and be free. He will take off the heavy yoke in exchange for a lighter one.  But it is a matter of choice.  If you choose to serve the Lord Jesus, he deals with oppression in your life.  If you serve the devil, he adds oppression upon oppression in your life.  Come to Jesus in total surrender.  Don’t be a Christian in name only but live as a total believer.

Are you aware that it is more dangerous to live as a sinful believer than to be an unbeliever?  If you are not yet born again, the devil knows you are in his camp and not a threat to him.  But once you confess Jesus, he knows you have been translated from the kingdom of darkness to that of light.  He will fight you.  He will tempt you with sin and once you give in, he gains an entrance to oppress you and oppress he will.  That is why the bible says that: whoso breaketh an hedge, a serpent shall bite him” (Ecclesiastes 10:8). A life yielded to sin is open to oppression.

In dealing with oppression therefore the first step is to ensure that you are totally devoted to Christ.  Flee and resist every form of sin.  Don’t allow the hedge around you to be broken.  When the hedge is broken, the serpent bites with oppression.  Live right. Trust the Holy Spirit for a life of righteousness.  Engage in spiritual exercises – prayer, evangelism, scriptural meditation, fellowship etc – they help you to live a life of righteousness.  This is one of the keys to live far away from oppression.

PRAYER:  Lord I surrender all.   Go ahead with a prayer of re-dedication.
