OPPRESSION IS NOT YOUR PORTION IX
Mathew 22: 23-28
As individuals can be oppressed, so also can families, societies or nations. Take this family in our text today for instance! A family of seven brothers! The eldest married a woman not knowing she was an agent of the devil whose sole mission was to destroy the entire household. And all the brothers waited their turn to marry and be killed by her. None of them was observant enough to see what was happening.
Beloved, you don’t have to be a victim of a family or societal oppression. You have a different covenant. You are a child of God, redeemed by the blood of the lamb. Remember our scriptural based confession; “When men are saying it is a casting down, as for me and my family it is a lifting up”. You should not die the way they die. Their oppression needs not be yours.
How do you escape family oppression? It starts by observation. You must be sensitive to the Holy Spirit to see the operation of the enemy around you. When you notice a particular trend in your family and it is negative and recurrent, you must resist it and end it in your own generation. In Genesis 38, Judah’s sons had an experience like the one in today’s text. The first son married a wife and died. The second son inherited her and died also. Then said Judah, to Tamar his daughter in Law, Remain a widow at thy father’s house, till Shelah, my son be grown: for he said, lest peradventure he die also, as his brethren did. And Tamar went and dwelt in her father’s house Genesis 38:11
Can you see wisdom? Two sons have died. Why should Judah allow another son to die? When you notice a trend of evil in your family, you must declare that it must end with you! It can be a mental issue; economic or an obvious curse. There are families that die young. Some don’t have good marriages. Among some, it is sibling enmity that runs into generations. In some towns, their indigenes don’t get beyond a particular level in life. These and many more are signs of generational oppression. Such oppression must end with you! Having noticed any such sign, deal with it spiritually. Let the Holy Ghost guide you. Pray. Seek counsel. And avoid the pitfalls that encourage such oppression in the family.
PRAYER: Generational and societal oppression must end with me in Jesus name. My generation shall not inherit any evil in the name of Jesus.
