OPPRESSION IS NOT YOUR PORTION VI
Galatians 5: 13-21
Life in Christ is supposed to be one of liberty – freedom from every form of oppression. As noted in one of our previous studies, the devil would want to lure you back to sin through various temptations. When you yield to sin, he gains a foothold to oppress. Sometimes, the devil doesn’t attack in a way you will know that you are being oppressed. He comes by way of turning your soul to habits that eventually become addictions. Every sin is a work of the flesh. The devil knows that the flesh wars against the spirit. Once he gets your flesh to lord it over your spirit man, you are already in bondage of oppression.
Any of the works of the flesh listed in Galatians 5:19-21 can become a weapon of oppression in the hands of the enemy. One can become addicted to lying or fornication for instance. That addiction is bondage and oppression. Many are very fervent believers but still engage in secret sins on a daily basis. And this they do against their will. They just cannot help themselves. Are you in this position? Are there sins that easily beset you? You do certain things over and over again? It is an addiction. And it is a weapon the devil uses to oppress you. If you don’t take steps to get out of that habit now, it will surely deal with you for “they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God” (verse 21b)
Will you allow that habit make you lose eternity? The ultimate goal of oppression is to make you lose the kingdom of God. This is besides the attendant shame and suffering on earth. You can turn the tide around before it is too late.
My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world, 1 John 2: 1-2
Your case is not beyond redemption. Repent; go to God for forgiveness and the grace to live above sin. Forsake and turn a new leaf. If you are finding it difficult to maintain a clean break, seek spiritual counsel. Sin shall not have dominion over you in Jesus Name.
