PREPARE FOR ETERNITY
LUKE 16: 19-31
We are all familiar with the story of the Rich man and Lazarus. The unnamed rich man enjoyed enormous wealth while on earth. Lazarus on the other hand lived and died wretched. As the end of both lives, the rich man ended up in hell while Lazarus made heaven in Abraham’s bosom. The two of them ended where they did, not because of their economic status on earth but because of how they prepared for eternity. The rich man did not end up in hell because of his wealth. Neither did Lazarus make heaven because of this poverty.
Eternity is real. One way or the other, you end up in either heaven or hell. There is no middle ground. Thank God you are a believer. Being born again is the first step towards eternity with God in heaven. Walking with God in obedience, righteousness and faith is the next step. Don’t live your life as if what Christianity is all about is this world. Paul said “if in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable”. Being a Christian goes beyond earthly triumphs, status and possessions. It is about reigning with Christ at the end of this earthly life.
Many go about as if everything ends on this earth. They are so earthly conscious that they forget about heaven. You must not live like that. Be heavenly conscious and earthly relevant. Live your life in line with the advice of Apostle Paul in Galatians 2:20-21. Be crucified with Christ your Lord. The crucified life is that tied to Christ, living for Christ, obeying him and having the hope of reigning with him eternally. It has been consistently said that if you miss heaven, definitely you can’t miss hell. Both destinations are real. You can choose to reign with God eternally or face ferment in hell eternity.
MEDITATION: For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? Mathew 16:26.
