REMEMBERING GOD’S FAITHFULNESS

Joshua 4 vs 1-9

Scripture: “In the future, when your children ask you, ‘What do these stones mean?’ tell them that the flow of the Jordan was cut off before the ark of the covenant of the Lord… These stones are to be a memorial to the people of Israel forever.” – Joshua 4:6-7

After the Israelites cross the Jordan River on dry ground, God instructs them to set up twelve stones as a memorial. These stones, taken from the middle of the riverbed, serve as a lasting reminder of God’s miraculous help and faithfulness. This act of remembrance highlights several important lessons for our faith.

1. Remembering God’s Miracles

God wanted the Israelites to remember His mighty works, so He instructed them to set up visible reminders. In our busy lives, it’s easy to forget how God has guided us through difficult times. Creating our own “memorial stones”—whether in the form of journaling, prayer, or sharing testimonies—helps us keep God’s faithfulness fresh in our hearts. How can you incorporate reminders of God’s goodness into your daily life?

2. Building Faith for Future Generations

God intended the memorial stones to be a teaching tool for future generations. When children would ask, “What do these stones mean?” parents could share stories of God’s provision. In the same way, we’re called to pass on our faith by sharing our experiences of God’s grace and guidance with others. Are there ways you can share your faith journey to encourage those around you, especially the younger generation?

3. Finding Confidence in God’s Power

The stones served as a reminder not only of God’s provision but also of His power. As they looked back on what God had done, the Israelites could find confidence in Him for future challenges. When we remind ourselves of God’s past faithfulness, it builds our trust that He will provide in the days ahead. What past experiences can you look back on to fuel your faith in God’s strength?

4. Gratitude for God’s Presence

Each stone symbolized God’s presence with His people. Reflecting on what God has done for us fills us with gratitude and renews our desire to walk closely with Him. How can you cultivate gratitude for God’s presence in your life today?

TO DO:  create “memorial stones” in your life to remind you of God’s goodness. Reflect on past victories c to build your confidence in God’s power for future challenges. Take a moment to express gratitude for His presence and faithfulness.
