THE LAW OF DISCIPLINE 2
Proverbs 12:1-6
We started looking at the Law of Discipline yesterday. Let’s consider the concluding part. Your time, attention and resources are worth more than gold and all the treasures of the east. You should have firm control over what gets them. Everywhere you turn to there are things that want to take your time, competing for your attention and want to be exchanged for your resources. You need to be firm and learn how to say NO to most of these things. For example your time is your life, you can’t afford to waste it oversleeping or watching television or games on your phone. You must be able to say No and get out of bed when you need to. Situations will arise when you will have to choose between a need and frivolous want. You should learn that ‘’’NO’’ is a complete statement.
Discipline is also the ability to make a choice and stick firmly to it. Even in your choices, there is also the need to recognize limits and stay within the limits. Food is good for the body but there’s a limit to the amount of food beneficial to the body; knowing when to speak or act without going overboard in the process are also limits you should learn. The key elements of discipline are Choices, Limits and Consistency. You must learn how to set boundaries or else you will end up becoming a caricature.
The value of discipline cannot be overemphasized. If you want to reach your goals and aspirations in life, you cannot do this without discipline. Discipline is what makes you to wake up at that hour early morning to push on, even if you are not seeing the immediate result. God offers you that choice, the freedom to choose to be disciplined. But the choice you make will determine what the future holds for you. You keep pressing. The price of discipline is excellence. It is the foundation upon which success is built but lack of discipline leads to failure.
MEDITATION: Discipline is your ladder to higher heights. Pay attention.
