THE LAW OF RECOGNITION
Matthew 25:14-21
Life isn’t designed to be lived alone. Everything you ever want to achieve is either in the hands of someone else or had been achieved by someone else. There are individuals that are essential for your life’s goal. You need to develop a keen eye to identify these sets of people for them to be able to fulfil their purpose in your life. They may come as a friend, mentor or spiritual authority. Friends are burden bearers. Without them, life can be overwhelming. Some friends are access givers, without which you can’t have entry into certain rooms.
Recognition is the identification of someone or something or person from previous encounters or knowledge. This can otherwise be termed as acknowledgement. Mentors have the ability to show you the path to your life destiny. Recognizing a mentor that has done what you’re trying to do is very important. Not everyone can be your mentor. Before you submit to anyone’s mentorship, you need to be sure you saw in them a picture of what you want your life to be. Another very important person you need to blossom in life is a Father. Fathers are spiritual authorities; fathers are archers; fathers play a role in launching you into your desired future life. Their place of honour and recognition is extremely important.
In our relationship with God, we must recognize his Lordship over us and be appreciative of everything he does for us. Entitlement mentality is an enemy of gratitude. As long as we have entitlement mentality, our relationship with God and people will suffer. When you fail to recognize the influence of God upon your life or the contribution of people in your life, it is a manifestation of pride. Recognition is a reward that must be given duly, not only to God but also to people who have impacted our lives in any way. There is no small gesture. When you show gratitude for a gesture, you are saying you do not deserve it and you are invariably opening yourself for more favours.
Psalms 29 instructs us to recognize God and give him his due: “Give unto the Lord, O you mighty ones, Give unto the Lord glory and strength. Give unto the Lord the glory due to His name; Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness”. It is only a wicked person that withholds recognition and acknowledgement from those who deserve it. In recognition of Jonathan’s kindness to David, his son, Mephibosheth found grace, (2 Samuel 9:3).
Likewise, King Ahasuerus did not find rest because the kind gesture of Mordecai was never recognized: “What honour and recognition has Mordecai received for this?” the king asked. “Nothing has been done for him,” his attendants answered” (Esther 6:1-2). He made sure Mordecai was honoured. Acknowledge and recognize whatever goodness you receive in life. It is positioning yourself for more.
