UNDERSTANDING YOUR CALLING

Matthew 22: 11 – 14

The Christian life is a calling. God has called us – his children from darkness to light; from bondage of sin and death to freedom; from fear to love; from condemnation to forgiveness; and from death to life.  In Christ, He has adopted us into His family and made us His own sons and daughters (Ephesians 1:5).  If God is the King, what would that make us to be?  Princes and princesses, right?  That is the essence of our calling.

Our primary calling is to be in a personal relationship with God through faith in Christ Jesus.  God’s choice is intentional.  God hasn’t chosen us on the spur of moment.  Rather, He carefully thought it through and executed the adoption.  God’s Word says: “He has chosen us to be His children even before the foundation of the world” (Ephesians 1:4). Yes, long before you were even conceived in your mother’s womb, He had chosen you to be His child. God has not chosen you by number, either.  He knows you by name.  He called out your name. God knows this. Jesus knows this. The Holy Spirit knows it, too.  God’s Word confirms it. Angels know this. Even the devil and his followers know this. But, do you?

This is why God expects us His children to lead a life worthy of His calling. Like the man in the text today, we must walk worthy of His calling. If we are to keep dining and feasting at the Lord’s banquet, enjoying communion with Him, we must be worthy of His presence. The Lord will not tolerate filthiness in form of sins. You must be rightly robed, else you will be thrown out.

MEDITATION: “He has saved us and called us to a holy life—not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time” (2 Timothy 1:9)
